Back in 2011, when they couldn’t find the bold and unique wallpapers and fabrics they longed to decorate their East London townhouse with, Frieda Gormley and Javvy M Royle came up with the idea for House of Hackney while sitting around their kitchen table. Sharing a passion for interiors and with backgrounds in fashion and product design, they set about creating what they had been searching for; a brand that celebrated print, colour and texture and rebelled against the pervading ‘beige’ aesthetic. Inspired by traditional British print houses, the vision was modern maximalism with an injection of quintessentially English nostalgia.
